About Us

The mission of Hand in hand, the FSC Thrift Shop, is to provide a continuous and strong revenue stream by selling high quality, repurposed goods donated by the community in support of FSC client services.

Our History

The Falmouth Service Center’s (FSC) Thrift Shop has a long and rich history in Falmouth. Launched nearly 20 years ago in 2002 after approval from the Town to rent a lovely, quaint farmhouse on Davisville Road previously owned by the Emerald family and operated as a strawberry farm, the Shop became an immediate success in supporting FSC’s client services. With very limited space, but exceptionally dedicated volunteers, Emerald House also provided a unique shopping opportunity and donation site for gently used items needing a new home.

The success of Emerald House became one of the topics of discussion when the FSC Board engaged in a three-five year strategic planning process. The Board engaged in considerable research into thrift shops and their profitability on the Cape and beyond. The outcome was the decision to expand the Thrift Shop and thus rent the larger, updated space at 141 Sandwich Road.

In July 2018, Hand in hand opened its doors as the next iteration of Emerald House. In a community where there is so much to be recycled, repurposed and resold, as well as a need to address FSC’s mission “to ease stress, reduce hunger and improve the quality of life for our neighbors in need,” Hand in hand provides a unique opportunity and has enjoyed considerable success. In fact, it’s the single largest contributor to FSC more than 14 client services and programs and an important asset to the Town and the broader community.
